Only half a year since I offered ten free sketches... and here's already the second one :D

:iconkayona-kim: requested I draw an 80s anime girl... and since of all 80s animes I'm probably most attached to Gunbuster (though technically it's VERY LATE 80s and has more of an early 90s spirit, if you ask me :D - but its character designer Haruhiko Mikimoto is probably my personal favorite when it comes to the nostalgic 80s style - he also designed the Macross characters if I remember correctly) I chose Noriko Takaya. That said, my style looks nothing like 80s anime ^^; If you wanna see that style done to its perfection, check out =kayona-kim's gallery.

Not to worry. The fact that she's got a workout leotard, wrist bands, and a head band all make her an 80s girl by default.

In fact, you probably could have gone the extra mile and given her leg warmers!

And people wonder why I miss the 80s.

Well, Noriko's a pretty good design, and the story is pretty much 'Battle Athletes-Mecha Pilot Version' until the Gunbuster comes along.

Damn good art.
:iconabt-nihil:
lol... you're right of course! Still, I guess I miss the 80s drawing style more than the 80s clothing style :D

Thanks a lot! I must have seen some stills and artwork from Battle Athletes... I distantly remember it.

Oh yeah, we're all missing Positively 4th Street... rewrite or no :D

I missed out on Battle Athletes, but I guess Gunbuster is full of references which are obscure to Westerners but commonplace to otakus :D

Thanks a lot for the fav!

In reality, Gunbuster came (a long time) first. But both have that 'best-of-the-best-athletes-going-against-each-other-for-the-Prize' thing going on. Both have some fanserivce. Both have comedy. It's when the real-deal dramatics start kicking in (the war, the Gunbuster proper, the relativistic speeds and whatnot, in Gunbuster's case) that things take a split.
:iconabt-nihil:
I see. Taking account of relativism may be the one original thing about Gunbuster :D
